Esports Premier League signs Indian film star Tiger Shroff as the face of the first-ever franchise-based Esports League. Tiger Shroff has become one of the first-ever personalities from Bollywood to tie up with Indian Esports. ESPL is a nationwide Free Fire tournament that follows a league format. The number of teams are representing various Indian cities and they will be competing against each other for a mega prize pool of INR 2,5,00,000. However, Group A event registration is closed but interested participants can compete in the subsequent groups. As the registration for group B are going live now until 24 June, 2021. The final eight teams will be representing eight Indian cities later this year.

18 May, 2021 the day since the Battlegrounds Mobile India went live for its pre-registrations, As from the same day the highly anticipated Battle Royale has been a topic of debate all over India. Especially for a number of politicians as they have appealed to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to block the release of the game all over the country. Although, now it seems like the launch of BGMI may not face obstacles, At Least not from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). As per reports from IGN India, a response to an RTI filed by Dr. Gaurav Tyagi (Assistant professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University) states that “MHA does not grant permission for launching any app MeitY issues blocking direction for any mobile applications under the provisions of section 69A of the IT Act, 2000”. 

Couple of days ago on 11th of June, 2021 the hashtag ‘ #BanBattlegroundsPUBG ‘ was trending on Twitter with a number of concerned users and politicians expressing their apprehension on the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India, The principal reason highlighted were worries over the game’s privacy and data policies, besides with Tencent’s investment in KRAFTON.

Although, the recent RTI responses offer a glimmer of hope for BGMI fans all over the country. The department of Electronics and Information Technology has come forward to clearly state that MeitY has “no role in granting any permission for entry of PUBG or any Company/ Mobile App in India”, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) states that “MHA does not grant permission for launching any app”.

Also, It has been reiterated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that MeitY does not have the power to ban or block any mobile application in the interest of integrity and sovereignty of India as per the law. As the case from the recent past when PUBG Mobile was initially banned in September, 2020. Although, it does not grant permission for the release of any mobile application.

Arvind Dharampuri (Member of Parliament) from Nizamabad, Telangana on 2nd of June, 2021 had reportedly written a letter to Ravi Shankar Prasad (Minister of Electronics and Information Technology), appealing to him to look into the matter.

Besides him, the MP from Maharashtra Ashok Nete had also requested a look over on user privacy and data theft by KRAFTON and Tencent. Also, he is with a demand for “strict action against the Chinese company” as per his Tweet.

Couple of days back, Ninong Ering (Member of the Legislative Assembly, Arunachal Pradesh) had also requested for a ban on Battlegrounds Mobile India, pronouncing it as “Chinese deception”. Which led to the hashtag ‘ #BanBattlegroundsPUBG ‘ trending across Twitter India, as several users came forth requesting the Indian Government to ban Battlegrounds Mobile India’s Official relaunch.

However, there is no official announcement on the launch date of Battlegrounds Mobile India. Naman ‘MortaL’ Mathur popular Indian Youtuber and content creator has yet again been Nominated as a finalist for the Esports Awards 2021 for ‘Streamer of the Year’. MortaL is on the board for the second year in a row of getting nominated as a finalist for the ‘Streamer of the Year’ class.

Dr Disrespect, Jack “CouRage JD” Dunlop, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, Jaryd “Summit 1g” Lazar, Rachel “Valkyrde” Hofstetter Felix “xQc” Lengyel and other popular gaming personalities are some streamers named alongside with MortaL. MortaL last year received the second-highest number of votes under this Award category, exceeded by Spanish streamer and Esports commentator Ibai Llanos.
