Bangladeshi esports prodigy, Farid Islam, has clinched a coveted spot in the highly anticipated Global Esports Games Riyadh 2023. Set to compete in the Street Fighter 6 tournament, Farid stands as the sole representative from Bangladesh, challenging 31 players hailing from diverse corners of the globe.
Farid's journey commenced by securing victory in a local qualifier tournament hosted by BYDESA (Bangladesh Youth Development & Electronic Sports Association). This triumph propelled him to the South Asia regional qualifier, where he outshone competitors from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Maldives, thereby securing his ticket to Riyadh for the global showdown.
The Global Esports Games, hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation under the aegis of the Global Esports Federation (GEF), is scheduled from December 12 to 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This flagship event encompasses an eclectic array of video game tournaments, spanning titles like Dota 2, eFootball 2023, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter 6, attracting over 950 participants from across 100 nations.
Farid delved into competitive fighting games in 2018, particularly honing his skills with the release of Street Fighter V Arcade Edition. Reflecting on his progression, he noted a significant boost in his gameplay during the COVID-19 period and thereafter. As a solo competitor in the 1v1 realm of fighting games, Farid gears up to represent Bangladesh on the grand stage of Global Esports Games 2023.
Farid boasts a decorated history, triumphing in local tournaments encompassing titles like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken. He actively fosters the local fighting games community as an admin of the 'Fighting Games Community Bangladesh' on Facebook, organizing tournaments for enthusiasts. His international foray includes participation in online tournaments within the Southeast Asia region. Concurrently, Farid balances his esports pursuits with studies at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), pursuing Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE).
Farid Islam's ascent in the esports realm, culminating in his representation at the Global Esports Games Riyadh 2023, stands as a testament to his skill, dedication, and contributions within Bangladesh's esports landscape. As he prepares to showcase his prowess on the international stage, Farid embodies the spirit of a rising esports luminary from Bangladesh, poised to make his mark among global contenders.
