Hemanth Kommu Aims for Glory at Global Esports Games 2023

Hemanth Kommu, an eFootball player from India, is all set to compete at the Global Esports Games 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The tournament, scheduled from December 12-16, holds high hopes for the 26-year-old gamer, known by his gaming handle 'peshemak7.'

The Road to Riyadh

After a remarkable performance in the Asian Qualifiers, Kommu secured a spot to represent India at the tournament. Drawn into Group D, he faces a competitive lineup including Brazil, Iran, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay. His initial match will pit him against Uruguay, kicking off the campaign.

Tournament Structure and Playoffs

The group stage, slated for December 13, adopts a Round Robin best-of-three format. With 28 players distributed into four groups of seven, the top three from each group advance to the Round of 16 playoffs. Additionally, a last-chance qualifier allows the fourth-placed player in each group to vie for a single slot in the final stage through a Single Elimination best-of-three format.

Qualification Journey and Triumphs

Kommu's journey to qualification showcased impressive victories against strong opponents during the Asian qualifiers, triumphing over Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. His ticket to the Global Esports Games 2023 came through his victory at the National Esports Championships 2023, organized by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) earlier this year.
